From Remembrance to Resilience: Recognizing Trauma’s Impact on Families This November

As we observe Remembrance Day this November, we honour the bravery and sacrifice of Canada’s veterans, whose courage has shaped our country. Today, we remember those who served, those who were lost, and the resilience of their families. This month also marks Women Abuse Prevention Month, and at Halton Women’s Place, we’re reflecting on how trauma—including the legacy of war—can ripple through families in ways that often go unseen.

While many veterans returned home carrying unaddressed trauma, supports for mental health were limited. This trauma sometimes created challenges within families and affected entire communities over time. Today, we understand that trauma—whether from war, life experiences, or abuse—can impact mental health, relationships, and family dynamics for generations.

At Halton Women’s Place, we are dedicated to supporting women and their children affected by abuse. Every day, we see how trauma and cycles of violence can deeply affect families. Our work is about helping women recognize these patterns, understand the signs, and find a path toward healing and safety. In honouring Remembrance Day, we reflect not only on the sacrifices but also on the resilience needed to break cycles of trauma. Healing requires community support and access to resources.

This November, we invite our community to learn more about recognizing the signs of abuse and supporting those impacted by it. By raising awareness, we can help families find safety and support. If you or someone you know is affected by abuse, please reach out to Halton Women’s Place. Our 24/7 crisis, information, and support lines are always here for you:
