FlamboroughToday received the following Letter to the Editor from the Flamborough Santa Claus Parade Committee:
The Flamborough Santa Claus Parade has been a beloved tradition in this community for 30 years. Attracting well over 30,000 people each year, the spectators eagerly line the streets to watch the bands, floats and entertainers take over the downtown core for an extraordinary evening of wonder and lights in celebration of the beginning of the Holiday Season.
Over these 30 years, we have been fortunate enough to have this event run by some amazing and dedicated groups of people. In partnership with the 4 local service clubs, this parade always happens on the last Saturday of November. However, as time marches on, so too do the challenges and demands of operating an event like this.
2023 saw a decrease in representation of the current volunteer organizing team, with many moving on to other opportunities in our community. The current coordinator is committed to a smooth transition to the next generation of leadership, however, at this time, our community has yet to step up and take an interest in this endeavour.
It has now come to the point that without a new group of individuals (and a new lead) stepping into the many roles of members of the parade committee, 2024 could be the final year of this amazing event.
It would be a great disappointment to have the parade come to a close, and so we are reaching out once again to ask our community to think about the Santa Claus Parade and consider whether or not you want to keep the dream alive.
