Margaret Scobie welcomes Santa and Mrs. Claus at the Knox Church Holiday Breakfast on Dec. 14.

Guests tucked into bacon, pancakes and eggs for a good cause at Knox Church last Saturday morning.

The event was the first community breakfast at the Waterdown church hall since the pandemic, said Brian Hall, one of the organizers. "Breakfast by the Men" was a weekly staple for about 20 years before that, raising about $350,000 for the church expansion and outreach programs.

The Dec. 14 event drew 90 people and raised $750, which will go toward the cost of replacing the church's projector equipment.

In addition to a delicious meal, diners were treated to a special presentation to acknowledge the founder of the original breakfast, Len Scobie. His wife Margaret was on hand to help host the meal and a surprise visit from Santa and Mrs. Claus. Bruce Tournay sang Christmas carols for the hungry crowd.

Hall says the church's next community breakfast in February will also have a special theme.
