The City of Hamilton is hosting a Community Conversation about the Recreation Master Plan, and the design for the new Waterdown Community Centre.
Residents are invited to a meeting at Memorial Hall in Waterdown on Monday, March 3 from 6 to 8 p.m. It will include a presentation and a chance to ask questions about the facility being designed for Ward 15.
According to the city website, the goal of the Recreation Master Plan is "to ensure that the city’s recreation portfolio is responsive to current and future needs in a responsible, equitable and cost-effective manner."
As the foundation of Hamilton's public recreation system, community recreation centres (CRCs) are prominent community destinations that accommodate a wide variety of registered and drop-in city programming, casual use, rentals, community partnerships and events that reflect the specific needs of area residents. In addition, these facilities play a vital role as a “third place” that provides a safe and inclusive space for people of all backgrounds.
Typically, recreation centres offer some degree of aquatic, gymnasium and community recreation programming for persons of all ages. Some are associated with arenas, larger auditorium spaces, and dedicated seniors’ space. Collectively, these facilities combine with more localized service options (such as community halls, schools, etc.) to create an extensive network of community-based facilities that offer a broad range of opportunities to residents and communities.
Hamilton's Recreation Master Plan has identified three new growth-related community recreation centres to be built over the next 10 years and funding has been approved to begin the concept design process in: Waterdown, Glanbrook and Fruitland-Winona.
The City of Hamilton is actively seeking feedback from residents throughout the design and development process to ensure the new facilities align with community expectations and priorities.
