Waterdown Collision and the local community teamed up to help Cystic Fibrosis Canada take another big stride towards a cure this spring.
The Clappison’s Corner collision centre raised a whopping $27,950 in time for the foundation’s Walk to Make Cystic Fibrosis History last weekend, with most of the donations coming through their Spring Tire Swap program. For every $75 donation to the Dante’s Journey to the Cure team, they offered a free seasonal tire change.
“Our goal this year was $25,000,” noted Nadia Mamone, who looks after business development and insurance relations at Waterdown Collision. “We usually hit or exceed our goal.”
This year’s tally topped last year’s effort, which raised $24,000.
Waterdown Collision owners Max and Patty DiFelice and sons Domenic and Dante got involved in the cause back in 2011. Dante, who’s now 21, was diagnosed with CF as a youngster. Over the years, the team has raised more than $200,000 for cystic fibrosis research.
This year, the Dante’s Journey to the Cure team included about 30 walkers at the Bayfront Park event, which raised a grand total of $137,711.
But, says Mamone, it was a true community effort.
“There were 30 people who were part of our walk team, but anybody who contributed was part of the team,” she said.
