Did you know June is Seniors Month?
Seniors make up over 30 per cent of our community members. They may be retired, or working part-time or full-time. They may be active in our community,
volunteering or helping friends and neighbours or they may be needing help and support from others. They may live in one of our towns and villages or still be out on the family farm.
Flamborough Connects proudly celebrates seniors this month!
We’ll be celebrating Seniors Month at our June 28 Friday Fundraising BBQ at Turkstra Lumber Waterdown. We’ll be barbecuing up our regular burgers and dogs plus we’ll be doing a demo Wheel of Fitness gentle fitness class for older adults and we’ll be joined by some special guests. Mark your calendars for Friday June 28 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
Do you have a friend, neighbour or family member who is a senior? Seniors are especially vulnerable to heat related illnesses and they may have more difficulty being outside in extreme hot weather. They may need help with running errands or doing outside work like watering flowers.
Seniors without air conditioning may benefit from spending some time at a local cooling centre, like the Waterdown, Carlisle, Freelton or Greensville Public Library. Seniors who live alone, who are geographically or socially isolated or who do not drive are at greater risk. Take a minute to check on the seniors you know during hot weather.
Our Seniors Education Session last week was a huge success with about 35 people learning about “Food and Mood”. We’ve had great feedback! We’re planning more Seniors Education Sessions for the summer and fall. Read our monthly newsletter to stay informed about these and other events offered by Flamborough Connects. Connecting with the community
It’s almost Canada Day! And that means it’s almost time for the Oh Canada Ribfest presented by Waterdown Rotary and the Rotary Club of Flamborough AM. Ribfest is looking for volunteers to help out with this year’s event. There are many ways of volunteering, from recycling to gate ambassadors and lots more! For more information, visit ohcanadaribfest.ca and click on Volunteer Now.
And Flamborough Connects would like to say a huge thank you to the Rotary Club of Flamborough AM for their recent donation. We were thrilled to be in the company of Food with Grace, Youth Unlimited, CHOICES, Migrants Matter Flamborough and Eagles Nest as we all shared the great things we’ve got going on in Flamborough.
Don’t forget to join Flamborough Connects every Friday for a barbecued hot dog, hamburger or veggie burger and a drink for only $5! For an additional cash donation, you will also get your choice of a bag of chips or a cookie. You can’t beat that price for a great lunch and all proceeds help support Flamborough Connects’ free and low-cost programs and services.
Stop by the Turkstra Lumber Waterdown parking lot, 61 Hamilton Street North from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. every Friday until Labour Day!
