Flamborough Food Banks is looking for volunteers to fill various shifts at its Centre Road facility in Carlisle.

According to their September newsletter, people can sign up for the following time slots:

Tuesdays from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. or Thursdays from 1 to 3 p.m.

  • The role on Tuesdays is to help prepare the food bank for Wednesday by unloading deliveries from our truck.
  • The role on Thursdays is to help move food products from our storage location to the food bank.

All of the work is in Carlisle. The work is heavy, and those who sign up need to be able to lift a minimum of 30 lbs.

Wednesdays from 12 to 3:30 p.m.

  • The role is to help bring shopping carts to the families' cars, retrieve shopping carts from the parking lot, and answer questions in our lobby area.

Wednesdays from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. (flexible)

  • This role is to help fill gaps in the food bank's schedule due to volunteer holidays and illness. Voluntters will either help pack grocery carts, package bread or fill kids' snack orders. The position is light duty.

Two Wednesdays per month from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m.

  •  The role is to fill kids' snack packs. The position is light duty.

The Food Bank is also looking for students to volunteer at the Rockton World's Fair during Thanksgiving weekend (Oct. 11 to 14). Those who sign up for any of the three-hour shifts will help collect donations at the front gate.

Those who are interested in learning more about any of these positions can contact Jim Leamen at the Flamborough Foodbank via email at [email protected] or by phone 905-690-1036.
