Here's what's open and closed on Family Day

Monday is Family Day - a provincial holiday in Ontario, which means many services and programs will be closed or altered.

Here's what's closed

According to the City of Hamilton website, all city administrative offices will be closed on Feb. 17, and will reopen on Tuesday, Feb. 18. Animal Services, the Hamilton Farmers' Market, and all Hamilton Public Library branches will also be closed, including Bookmobile, Extended Access, and Study Hall services.

The Ontario Works Program, including the Special Supports Program will be closed; the office will reopen Feb. 18 at 8:30 a.m.

Hamilton Municipal Parking System will be closed. Parking Control Officers will not be enforcing routine matters or complaints from Sunday, Feb. 16 at 5:45 a.m. until Monday, Feb. 17 at 10 p.m. Proactive enforcement may occur for special events and areas of interest.

The LCBO and The Beer Store are closed.

Services that will be affected

HSR’s Customer Service Centre at 36 Hunter St. East will be closed. For assistance with trip planning, call 905-546-2489. Phone service is available 7-days-a-week, including on holidays, from 7:30 a.m  to 8 p.m. HSR buses will be operating on Sunday service schedule. 

GO Transit will be operating on its Saturday schedule on Family Day.

The ATS/DARTS administrative office will be closed on Feb. 17. DARTS will be operating on holiday service hours.

All subscription trips on DARTS, with the exception of dialysis trips, are cancelled on Monday. Passengers who need to travel on Family Day must make a reservation in advance.

There will be no green bin, blue box, garbage or bulk garbage pick-up. Waste collection will occur one day later. Waste must be at the curb by 7 am.

Community Recycling Centres are closed.

Here's what's open

The Tropical Greenhouse at Gage Park will be open, and al Hamilton Civic Museums will be running family-friendly programming. (Hamilton Childrens' Museum is closed for and expansion project.)

Some city rec centres will be open for Family Day programming:

  • Bernie Morelli Recreation Centre
  • Stoney Creek Recreation Centre
  • Valley Park Recreation Centre
  • Westmount Recreation Centre
  • Sackville Hill Seniors Centre

All other recreation locations will be closed.

Canada Post and other federal services will be open on Family Day.
