The Joseph Brant Hospital Foundation (JBHF) is turning to donors and local residents for help with funding necessary new equipment for the hospital, from neonatal care machines to surgical equipment.

“Many people don’t know but we don’t actually receive any government funding at all to support our equipment needs,” Ashley Davidson, president and CEO of JBHF, said. “The hospital and the foundation rely entirely on the generosity of our donors and our community in order to fund our urgent equipment needs.”

The hospital’s foremost need is a new CT scanner, but they also need new vital sign monitors, surgical equipment, endoscopy scopes, panda warmers for the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, IV poles and blood pressure cuffs.

Davidson spoke on how important the local community has been in the past for supporting the foundation and the hospital.

“Community support has always been vital to the hospital being able to provide the very best care possible to our community,” she said. “Our community and donors play a truly integral role in ensuring that our hospital is there and able to care for everyone day in and day out.”

Joseph Brant Hospital is currently partnering with Split the Pot, a lottery that is partnered with 68 hospitals across Ontario, to raise both funds and awareness about the hospital’s needs as proceeds from each ticket bought can be directed towards the JBHF.

“We really encourage people to participate in Split the Pot,” Davidson said. “It’s a really win-win initiative and we’re expecting the pot to reach up to $1.2 million, and when people support the initiative, they’re not only supporting Joe Brant but also other hospitals in Ontario. It’s a joint community initiative to enhance healthcare across our province.”

Joseph Brant Hospital supports communities across Halton, including Burlington, Stoney Creek, Hamilton and Waterdown.

Until Nov. 27, participants can purchase a Split the Pot lottery ticket starting at $20 for five tickets.
