Heavy snow is expected later this afternoon and will transition to freezing rain overnight.

Winter storm warning replaces snowfall warning for:
City of Hamilton, Ont.

Current details:
Snow and freezing rain expected.

What:
Total snowfall amounts near 15 cm.
Peak snowfall rates of two to four cm per hour.
Poor visibility in heavy snow.
Freezing rain producing ice build-up near two mm.

When:
Snow beginning late this afternoon.
Transitioning to freezing rain near midnight.

Additional Information:
Snow, heavy at times, will begin late this afternoon and will impact the evening commute. Snow will transition to a mix of freezing rain and ice pellets near midnight. Precipitation may briefly change to rain early Thursday morning before changing back to snow and ending late Thursday morning.

Rapidly accumulating snow could make travel difficult over some locations. Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become icy and slippery. There may be a significant impact on rush hour traffic in urban areas.
