My name is Alex Wilson, and I am proud to serve as your Ward 13 Councillor representing Dundas and Flamborough communities including Greensville, Rockton, Westover, Kirkwall, Freelton, Strabane, and parts of Millgrove between Highway 6 and 8. I want to thank FlamboroughToday for this opportunity! Staying in touch across our many communities can be a challenge and I am very grateful for the space to share information with neighbours about the issues most local to you.
In this first column, I wanted to share how you can get in touch with our office, the issues we are hearing about from Flamborough residents, and what updates residents can expect to hear more about in future columns.
Ward 13 is the largest ward in the City of Hamilton by area, and staying connected across our shared geography can be a challenge. My office is here to help! Whether it's navigating City Hall, reporting an issue or concern, or supporting a community project, my team and I are here to support you and can be reached at [email protected].
I also publish an email newsletter twice a month that includes regular updates on community issues, a “Community Corner” for local organizations to promote their events, construction and development updates in the ward, and so much more. If you would like to receive these updates, please let me know at [email protected].
Common concerns
Some of the most common concerns I hear from Flamborough residents are regarding road safety and the condition of our rural roads. Reports of speeding and unsafe driving are increasingly frequent. I take these concerns seriously and I am working with other councillors representing rural communities to bring attention to these concerns and advocate for solutions.
If you have specific concerns or want to know more about how we are responding, please reach out to my office – we want to hear from you.
Issues with truck traffic, especially heavy trucks on local and residential roads that are not part of the City’s truck route, are another common concern. This is not only dangerous for residents but is incredibly expensive as the wear and tear of heavy truck traffic reduces the lifespan of the roadway and increases replacement and maintenance costs for these roads. The City of Hamilton and the Hamilton Police Services have collaborated to launch the Truck Route Violation Reporting Tool available at www.hamilton.ca/truckreport to ensure that data from residents experiencing these concerns can directly influence where and how Hamilton Police Service resources are located to enforce violations.
Please report trucks violating the City’s By-law through the Hamilton Police Service non-emergency line at 905-546-4925 or by using the Truck Violation Reporting Tool.
City Hall - and beyond
In future editions of this column, you can expect to see information about what is happening at City Hall and across Flamborough and how you can get involved. Next month will have information on the City of Hamilton’s 2025 Budget process (mid-November – mid-February) and how to get involved to share your feedback and priorities. You can also expect future updates regarding investments in local parks and recreation facilities coming to Flamborough, local infrastructure renewal, as well as updates on city-wide issues like the City of Hamilton’s response to the housing and affordability crisis. If there is a topic or issue you would like to hear more about, please let us know.
I want to again thank FlamboroughToday for this opportunity to share information directly with Flamborough residents and look forward to sharing future updates here. Until then, I hope you consider staying engaged by signing up for the Ward 13 newsletter or reaching out to me and my office – we’re here to help.
