Looking for reliable hometown headlines? You definitely clicked on the right place.
Welcome to FlamboroughToday.com, the latest addition to Village Media’s expanding network of news websites dedicated to community journalism. We cover the stories that matter most: the ones right in your neighbourhood.
Launched this morning, FlamboroughToday is Village Media’s 23rd owned-and-operated local news source in Ontario, joining nearby sites BurlingtonToday, HaltonHillsToday, CambridgeToday, GuelphToday and the recently acquired Oakville News.
Village's roster of news sites also includes The Trillium, the largest team of Queen's Park journalists covering provincial politics and policy at the Ontario Legislature.
“We are thrilled to be in Flamborough, a place where people care deeply about their community and the news and events happening around them,” says Jeff Elgie, the CEO of Village Media. “We have an amazing team in place and we’re looking forward to showing local residents why they should turn to us first for breaking news and deeper coverage focused on their corner of Hamilton.”
The editor of FlamboroughToday is Brenda Jefferies, an award-winning journalist and lifelong resident of Waterdown who covered local news for 17 years at the now-shuttered Flamborough Review. Joining her on the team is Cara Nickerson, a talented reporter who started her career at Hamilton Community News and most recently worked at CBC as a reporter, writer and producer.
Born digital, Village Media’s free and accessible websites are designed to be super-fast and easy to navigate, whether you’re on a phone, computer or tablet. More importantly, each site is a trusted source of accurate, fact-based journalism and other important information, including weather reports, obituaries and classifieds.
“When done with purpose and passion, local journalism has the power to connect and inform communities like nothing else can,” says Michael Friscolanti, the Editor-in-Chief of Village Media. “We introduce you to fascinating neighbours and celebrate local triumphs, but we also ask the tough questions and hold decision-makers to account. When local news thrives, everyone benefits.”
An industry leader in local digital media, Village Media strives to strengthen the cities and towns it serves through an integrated approach to community-first journalism, sales and marketing. The company’s growing network of both owned-and-operated and partner sites in Canada and the United States operates on an innovative, custom-built content management system developed in-house.
