Passed away at home in his 88th year on Wednesday, January 1, 2025. Father of Dianne Dowling MacPherson and Dennis (Barb) Dowling. Predeceased by his parents Bernice Spray Spoar Dowing and Melvin John Dowling. Dear brother of Colleen Turner and brother-in-law of Peg Dowling, and predeceased by siblings and in-laws Bernice and Malcolm Pounder, Barb and Tom Dowling, Larry Dowling, Gwen and Dave McLain, Bert Turner and Carl Dowling.
Peanut was a founding member of the Volunteer Fire Department in Freelton on May 10, 1961. He rose to the position of District Chief for the Flamborough Fire Dept., Freelton Station on Nov. 4, 1992, retiring on Dec. 31, 1997 after 36 ½ years.
In 2008 Peanut took up dancing first with the Waterdown Village Squares and then Jam Session with the Puslinch Fiddle Orchestra at the Waterdown Legion every Thursday afternoon.
Visitation at KITCHING, STEEPE & LUDWIG FUNERAL HOME, 146 Mill St. N., Waterdown on Thursday, January 2, 2025 from 2-8 p.m., and on Friday, January 3, 2025 from 12-1 p.m. at FREELTON STRABANE UNITED CHURCH, 1565 Brock Rd., Strabane, where the Funeral Service will commence at 1:00 p.m. Rev. Will Wheeler officiating.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Ronald McDonald House in support of the Freelton Fire Station 28 Toy Drive, or the Puslinch Fiddle Orchestra (care of Paul MacDonald) would be sincerely appreciated.
