Robert Ernest Wray, beloved husband of Sylvia Ann, loving father of Timothy (Elizabeth Sheffield) and Simon (Kaitlyn Ollson), and adoring gramps to Hadley, London, and Fiona, died peacefully Tuesday, October 22nd, 2024 in Hamilton, Ontario, aged 80 years.
Robert was the son of Dr. George Clark Wray and Margaret Celeste McDonald of Hamilton. Brother of Donald G. Wray of Waterdown, his wife Jennifer and their daughters Heather, Eleanor, and Emily; cousin of Douglas James Wray of Connecticut, U.S.A; with friends in Ontario and the United Kingdom.
He grew up in Hamilton playing baseball for East Kiwanis Little League, graduated from Hillfield School and Mohawk College. He spent his entire working career with Dofasco where he was a member of teams bringing innovation and technology to the steel company as it moved into the 21st century.
On retirement, he and Sylvia travelled across Canada and to the United Kingdom tracing the ancestry of his four grandparents who had come to Canada beginning in 1832. He also volunteered at the Flamborough Archives researching the lives of young men and women from Flamborough who had served in World War I. He was a quiet, kind, and generous man who will be missed.
The family wish to thank all the staff who cared for Robert during the last year as he battled the horrors of dementia, especially the staff of Harbour North One, West 5th, who cared for him with kindness, compassion, and respect.
There will be no visitation or memorial service as per Robert’s wishes, and interment at a later date.
