Brantford man, 55, killed in head-on collision near Millgrove

Stretch of Hwy. 5 West is closed for investigation; OPP expects it to reopen by 7 p.m.

A 55-year-old man from Brantford is dead after a fatal head-on collision on Highway 5.

The collision happened between Millgrove Road and Rock Chapel Road around 9:30a.m., causing a highway closure for several hours.

OPP spokesperson Sgt. Kerry Schmidt said the collision happened between an eastbound gravel hauling truck and a westbound delivery van, which had crossed over into the eastbound lane.

“The driver of the tractor trailer was not able to avoid the collision,” Schmidt said in a video released on X, formerly known as Twitter.

Schmidt said the driver of the delivery van was ejected from his vehicle and was pronounced deceased at the scene. He said the man’s family is being notified.

The driver of the gravel truck was not injured, Schmidt said.

Schmidt said the delivery van was on fire after the crash and debris from the collision was spread across the road.

Burlington OPP and the collision reconstruction team remain on scene and Hwy 5 will remain closed until the investigation and clean up is complete.

Schmidt said he expects the closure to remain in place until 7p.m. tonight.

He asks anyone who witnessed the collision, or with any information, to contact the Burlington OPP.
