Police charge 2 youths with trafficking opiates in Hamilton bust

Police say the youths were seen dealing drugs such as dilaudid and fentanyl to unhoused individuals

Hamilton Police have arrested two youths involved in a fentanyl trafficking investigation.

On Wednesday Jan. 22, 2025, officers assigned to the High Enforcement Action Team (H.E.A.T) were in the area of King Street East and James Street North when they observed two youths displaying characteristics that are indicative of drug trafficking. Of note, the youths were observed dealing drugs such as dilaudid and fentanyl to unhoused individuals.

Police were able to form grounds to arrest the pair under the Controlled Drugs and Substance Act (CDSA). One of the youths was arrested without incident while the other fled on foot. After a brief foot chase, the second youth also placed under arrest and taken into custody.

The youths were charged with the following:

Youth 1

  • Possession for the purpose of trafficking - Fentanyl 
  • Possession for the purpose of trafficking – Opioid 
  • Proceeds of crime under $5000.00 
  • Fail to comply with release order

Youth 2

  • Possession for the purpose of trafficking – Opioid 
  • Proceeds of crime under $5000.00

Similarly, Hamilton Police recently shut down an open-air drug market which involved drug dealers preying on vulnerable, unhoused people. The project, “Project Open Air”, resulted in 57 arrests and 103 charges.
