Police say threat at two Hamilton schools involved replica firearm

Police in Hamilton responding to a report of a threat at a local public school say investigation later led them to a Hamilton high school.

"Hamilton Police are assuring the community that all students remained safe throughout the day as officers maintained a presence at both schools to ensure their safety," police said in a news release.

Police say shortly after 8:30 a.m. today officers responded to a report of a threat at Sherwood Public School at 25 High St.

Police said investigation led officers to a second location at Westmount Secondary School at 39 Montcalm Dr.

Officers determined the incident involved a threat and the discovery of a replica firearm, according to a police news release.

"The circumstances surrounding the incident remain under investigation, and police are continuing to gather information," police said.

"The use of weapons, even replicas, in our community is unacceptable. Police are asking anyone with information to come forward and report it to investigators, parents, or school staff."
