Earlier today, Hamilton Police attended Bishop Tonnos High School after reports were received of a Bishop Tonnos student on school property with a weapon. Police responded and requested the school be placed into a “hold and secure” for precautionary measures.  Bishop Tonnos was methodically searched with the assistance of school administration.

Officers confirmed the suspect never entered the school with the weapon, they had only been reported to be observed with a weapon outside of the school.

Shortly after, the student was identified, located by police off school grounds and arrested for a weapons offence.  At this time, investigators can confirm that no weapon has been located.  The investigation is ongoing and no charges have been laid as this time. This investigation is fluid and ongoing.  Students were released from school after the search in a calm manner.  Investigators are not releasing the type of weapon as this remains evidence in this case. The suspect in this case is a youth, as such, no details can be released regarding this student in accordance with the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
