Teen charged after police discover stolen vehicle in East end

Hamilton Police have arrested a 14-year-old after the discovery of a stolen auto over the weekend in Hamilton.

On Saturday, November 16, 2024 Hamilton Police officers were investigating a separate incident when they observed a suspicious vehicle in the area of Gage Park.

When the officers approached the vehicle to gather more details, the occupant of the vehicle fled on foot and a chase ensued. The suspect was quickly apprehended and officers learned that the individual was breaching three release orders in addition to possessing a stolen vehicle.

The young person – who cannot be named in accordance with the Youth Criminal Justice Act – now faces the following charges:

  • Possession over $5000.00
  • Fail to Comply Release Order x3

Vehicle thefts are an ongoing problem in the Hamilton area and the Hamilton Police Service is reminding the public to be mindful when leaving your vehicle for extended periods of time.

  • Always lock your vehicle doors and keep your keys in a safe place
  • Remember to remove high value items from plain sight
  • If possible, park in areas you know cameras and/or other community members to be
  • Never leave your vehicle unattended while idling
