Harb Plumbing has had a proud history in the Burlington and Oakville area for fifty years.
“Harb Plumbing was started 50 years ago, and was originally known as Sam Harb and Family Plumbing,” explained Jamie Stacey, Operations Manager for Harb Design Gallery. “Sam’s nephew TJ, who grew up working with Sam and his dad Jay, took over the business in 2017.”
Stacey continued, “Although Harb’s has grown a lot in fifty years, it is still very much a family business. TJ’s brothers and cousin have a significant role here, and a lot of us went to school with TJ and are good friends. That helps to build a tight-knit team that really cares about the business.”
When Sam Harb ran the business, he found quite quickly that often one plumbing emergency would lead to the need for a larger renovation of a kitchen or bathroom, depending on the client’s needs. Sam began to build a list of qualified subtrades that he could trust to do those jobs right. He also took to bringing tile and other samples along in his truck, to help his clients get the job rolling.
“Six years ago,” said Stacey, “TJ took the leap and separated the renovation division and officially opened Harb Design Gallery, with a showroom in Burlington where customers could come in, look at samples, speak with a designer, and design their new bathroom or kitchen.”
Customers can then book their renovation with Harb’s team of qualified subcontractors and the whole job can be planned and executed through their project coordinators, true one-stop shopping.
“Our customers love working with us because of that ease of planning and renovating,” said Stacey.
To celebrate its fiftieth anniversary, and the beginning of a new yearly commitment to the United Way, Harb’s is having a big fundraising bash on Saturday September 7, in the parking lot at its Burlington location, at 4380 South Service Road.
“Previously, we had done a holiday food and toy donation drive each year, but as a team, all of us really wanted to make more of an impact with our charitable giving in our community. So, we decided to partner with the United Way,” said Stacey, “Not only do they support people in mental health crisis, addiction, the houseless, seniors, they also offer a great matching donation program which means if we pledge to donate $5,000 each year, the United Way will match that sum.”
She finished, “We decided to start our fundraising off with a bang and celebrate our 50th anniversary at the same time with this very fun, family-friendly day. We will have food and drink trucks, free face painting, a dunk tank, live music, vendors, games, and lots more exciting activities for all ages. It really will be a wonderful day for everyone.”
In addition, every person who donates to the United Way will receive raffle tickets to be entered for fantastic prizes, including the grand prize of a free powder room makeover.
“We really hope our community will come out, celebrate, and support the United Way with us on September 7,” said Stacey. “We will be there rain or shine, we have lots of tents to keep everyone dry!”
