You know it’s summertime when the Waterdown Farmers’ Market starts up again!

Thankfully, that is happening this Saturday, May 25 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 551, 79 Hamilton St. N., Waterdown.

“We are thrilled to be back, in our eleventh season of the current iteration of this very special Farmers’ Market!” exclaimed Market Manager, Adam Neumann.

The Waterdown Farmers’ Market runs weekly every Saturday morning, rain or shine, from now until mid-October, according to Neumann. Over thirty vendors attend the market each week, and vendor offerings run the gamut from local produce, meats and eggs direct from the farm, plus baked goods, preserves, VQA Ontario wines and more. The market is a producer’s market, not a resell market, he said.

“We’re excited to welcome six new growers and half a dozen new food makers, expanding offerings to now include mushrooms, dairy products, vegan treats and more diverse ethnic flavours,” expanded Neumann.

“Besides providing a unique shopping experience, the Waterdown Farmers’ Market also serves as the backdrop for wonderful community gatherings. We invite neighbours to get outside and reconnect”, he continued. “Whether meeting up in the food court for breakfast, sharing a morning coffee while they browse or enjoying live entertainment in the busker corner, the Farmers’ Market is the perfect place to convene for ‘Stay Local Saturdays’ while weekly activities in the Kids’ Corner help little ones learn more about where the foods they eat come from.”

The Farmers’ Market really is fun for all ages, and opening Saturday promises to provide lots of entertainment and special events for everyone. “May 25, we will have the Annual Flamborough Horticultural Society Plant Sale happening,” said Neumann. “As well, student performers from the CBY Academy of Performing Arts, Waterdown Music Academy and the Waterdown District High School Concert Band are tuning up for the occasion.”

Also, there will be opening remarks from City Councillor McMeekin and an official ribbon cutting at 10 a.m., said Neumann.

Neumann finished, “We couldn’t have such an extraordinary Farmers’ Market and meeting place without the support of the Waterdown Village Business Improvement Area and our many local business sponsors. We are looking forward to welcoming everyone back for a fantastic 2024 season!”
