Why do we wear orange on September 30?

Today is National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, a day which honours the children who never returned home and Survivors of residential schools, as well as their families and communities.

As a community provider of Information and Referral Services, Flamborough Connects is proud to offer information about National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.

Why wear Orange on National Day for Truth and Reconciliation? Orange Shirt Day is an Indigenous-led grassroots commemorative day intended to raise awareness of the individual, family and community inter-generational impacts of residential schools, and to promote the concept of “Every Child Matters”.

The orange shirt is a symbol of the stripping away of culture, freedom and self- esteem experienced by Indigenous children over generations. Community volunteer opportunities

Are you looking for volunteer opportunities in your community? Flamborough Connects is looking for volunteer drivers for Flamborough Drives to take seniors on outings throughout Flamborough for shopping and errands. We are also looking for Food Bank Delivery drivers for West Flamborough
on alternate Wednesday afternoons beginning in November and as backup drivers. Connect with us for more information or to volunteer!

Flamborough Connects would like to say a HUGE thank you to all of our volunteers. Our Wheel of Fitness leaders keep seniors active and engaged across Flamborough. Our Income Tax volunteers electronically submit taxes for low-income residents, allowing them to access refunds, tax credits
and rebates as well as keeping residents eligible for the Guaranteed Income Supplement and social housing.

Our volunteer drivers transport Flamborough residents without access to transportation for grocery shopping, errands and also deliver for the Flamborough Food Bank. Our Snow Angels shovel snow to keep residents safe in the winter. Our Holiday Gift Program volunteers wrap and deliver personalized gifts during the holiday season. And many more volunteers help with our Friday Fundraising BBQs, at Education Sessions, and at other Flamborough Connects
events. Thank you to all our volunteers!
