The St. Mary’s annual DREAMS trip is still a couple of months away, but local students at the West Hamilton Catholic high school are busy raising funds to cover the costs associated with the building project in the San Jose de Ocoa region in Dominican Republic.
And Waterdown residents can help - just by having dinner. Next Thursday, the students are hosting a fundraiser at the Waterdown Boston Pizza. On Wednesday, Jan. 29, 10 per cent of all proceeds at the Clappison Ave. restaurant from 6 to 8 p.m. will support DREAMS.
According to organizers, the money will be used to purchase tools for the construction. project. St. Mary’s Chaplaincy Leader Donald Hall notes that the DREAMS initiative has built 61 homes, a a school and a teacher’s residence in San Jose de Ocoa over the past 26 years, and rising construction costs make the mission even more urgent.
“We are still accepting donations to support the program,” he confirmed. “Contributions in the form of financial gifts, household items, school supplies, and building tools are greatly appreciated.” Hall will be collecting items for the DREAMS trip until Feb. 10.
