When it comes to lighting up the holidays, it's hard to top Scott and Debbie Lewis.
The Freelton couple celebrated the official launch of this year's Christmas Land Saturday night, and it will be illuminating the skies over Weneil drive until the end of the year.
Since the first Christmas Land 15 years ago, the Lewises have been adding new features each season, handcrafting the imaginative wooden cutout characters themselves. The full installation now has about 250 characters, including this year's newcomers: a whimsical cast of raccoons and the Flintstones.
In addition to the cutouts, about 40,000 lights adorn the display spread out cross the one-acre property - the big tree alone has about 1,000 lights, and a row of smaller trees feature lights that flicker in time to the Christmas music.
In addition to creating some holiday magic, the Lewis family helps others each year through the display. Members of the community who come out to view the installation are asked to bring along a non-perishable food or cash donation if they are able. All donations will be delivered to the Flamborough Food Bank.
Christmas Land is at 16 Weneil Drive in Freelton. It will be lit every evening from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. until Dec. 31.
