The sweet sounds of familiar love songs filled the air at a special Valentine's concert at St. James United Church Saturday afternoon.
The Harbourtown Sound male chorus and the ladies' A Capella Showcase, both of which use the church's community room to practise each week donated their talents for the St. James fundraiser. The men's quartet and the Empire singers also performed during the show, which delighted the audience with selections that included pop, show tunes, jazz and traditional standards.
Harbourtown Sound and A Capella Showcase, which are both led by musical director Jordan Travis, draw singers from throughout the region; the ladies practise at the Parkside Drive church on Tuesday evenings and the men practise on Wednesdays.
"This is a central spot and it's a great space," said A Capellla Showcase president Debbie Glenn, noting that the 80 members come from Woodstock, Kitchener, Guelph, Niagara and other points around southern Ontario.
Both choruses are made up of amateur singers who deliver professional performances. In November, the A Capella Showcase won the International Gold Medal Chorus award at the Harmony Inc. 2023 competition in Grand Rapids, Michigan. This fall, they will take the state in Louisville, Kentucky.
