Waterdown ON – As is tradition in the NHL, players who have won the Cup get to spend a day with it during the off-season. On his day, Carter Verhaeghe, who played minor hockey for many years with the Flamborough hockey association and within the Hamilton AAA system, will be hosting a public event at Harry Howell Arena in Waterdown on Monday, Aug. 19, between noon and 1:00 p.m.
This is the second time Verhaeghe has brought the Cup to his hometown. Carter hosted his first Stanley Cup in 2021, after winning the championship with the Tampa Bay Lightning.
Through 2024, Verhaeghe was an integral part of the Florida Panther’s successful season and playoff run that culminated in a nail-biting seven-game series against the Edmonton Oilers. Verhaeghe scored the first goal and had an assist on the game-winning goal in game seven to clinch the Cup, the first in the Florida Panther’s franchise history.
“I’m really looking forward to sharing the Cup with the community that has played such an important role in my development as a player and as a person." says Verhaeghe.
The public is invited to come and meet Verhaeghe and get an up-close look at the Cup. Due to time and capacity limitations, there will be no autographs signed at this event and only the first 300 residents will be accommodated for a photo opportunity.
The City of Hamilton is offering a Community Free drop-in skate at Harry Howell Arena from 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Please note, due to previous obligations, Carter will not be able to participate in the drop-in skate.
