Police retrieve home-made weapon from a tree near encampment

Concerned citizen alerted police to suspicious device made from a butcher knife and lawn mower blade

On the evening of Nov. 6 Hamilton Police responded to a call from a concerned citizen reporting a suspicious item in the vicinity of an encampment near King Street and Main Street. Information and photos of the alleged weapon had also been shared on social media.

Officers arrived on the scene and, after a thorough search of the area, located what appeared to be a homemade weapon high on the branch of a nearby tree. The weapon, approximately 3.5 feet in length, was constructed with a large butcher knife attached to one end and a lawn mower blade fastened to the opposite end. Due to its appearance and placement, the weapon posed a significant concern for public safety.

Hamilton Police have safely removed the weapon and extend their gratitude to the community for working in partnership to help keep our city safe. If you see something, say something.
