Search of tent in East end park nets drug, weapons charges

Hamilton man faces drug, weapons charges after police executed a search warrant at a tent located in Montgomery Park on Dec. 20

Hamilton Police executed a search warrant on a tent in Montgomery Park after receiving complaints about an individual suspected of dealing drugs and in possession of a firearm. 

On Dec. 20, 2024 shortly after 6 a.m., Hamilton Police executed the search warrant with the assistance of the Emergency Response Unit. The male was arrested nearby in possession of a prohibited weapon. 

The male was charged with drug and weapon-related offences. The tent was equipped with a generator, TV, and a secure safe where cash and a quantity of drugs was located. 

Matthew Campbell-Lewis, 36 years old from Hamilton, is facing the flowing charges

  • CDSA 5(2) Fentanyl
  • CDSA 5(2) Hydromorphone
  • CDSA 5(2) Methamphetamine
  • Possession Proceeds of Crime Under $5,000
  • Possession Prohibited Weapon (Switchblade)
  • Possession Contrary to Order (Ammunition)
  • Possession Contrary to Order (Switchblade)

Police also located a raccoon roaming around the inside of the tent that was being kept as a pet. City of Hamilton Animal Services was contacted to take the raccoon.

Campbell-Lewis is also facing charges for keeping a prohibited animal in accordance with a city by-law.
