FlamboroughToday received the following Letter to the Editor from reader Gary Aikema, in regards to this week's public meeting about Safari Road:
Yesterday evening, I attended a meeting concerning the closed down Safari Road. The section between Valens Road and Kirkwall Road has been shut down for two years now and seasonally for five.
Representatives of the city were available along with a consultant and displays of what was to take place with regards to environmental studies.
It’s going to take until at least the end of 2025 to get the environmental study done at a cost of somewhere between $350,000 and $500,000. After that, designs will be done or some remedial action will take place. Don’t figure on this road being open again until at least the end of 2028.
This left many in attendance furious. Safari is a major thoroughfare for east-west traffic, which is now directed onto adjacent concession roads and causes significant extra travel time for many.
This is also a safety issue. Adjacent landowners were also upset that their lands would remain flooded for an indeterminate length of time.
Of course, our local councillor Alex Wilson was not in attendance nor does he return phone calls or emails.
