Ontario’s expanding alcohol sales have hit Costco – the big box store known for selling everything in bulk, from pens to golf clubs and, now, beer.
The Burlington Costco at 1225 Brant St. is now selling 60 packs of Coors Light, for $84.99. The Beer Store – formerly one of Ontario’s only two places to buy beer and the only one to buy in bulk – charges $93.99 for the same case of Coors.
At Costco, that works out to $1.41 per beer before tax and deposit.
Other beers on sale at the Brant location include Stella Artois, Landshark, Bud Light, and Steam Whistle.
Although the sale of bulk beer and wine at stores outside of LCBO and The Beer Store only started today, not many Costco customers were seen carrying any of the hard drinks out in their carts. The store, as it always is, was packed on Thursday afternoon.
Costco’s store brand Kirkland is well known for its high-quality basics from socks to food, and sells liquor in many U.S. locations, with Kirkland vodka topping The New York Times’ Wirecutter list for best vodka in 2024, though hard liquor is not available at the Ontario stores yet.
