Lynden knows how to throw a Canada Day party!

The 25-year tradition combines family activities, community pride and patriotism. The event is a labour of love for the organizing committee, which pulls out all the stops to mark the nation’s birthday - and this year is no exception.

The July 1 program starts at 3 p.m. with a parade that travels down Lynden Road from the fire station, turning onto Governors Road to the Lions Park. This is a new time for the parade, which typically includes 40-50 entries.

Once at the park, families can enjoy the classic car and equipment show, a magic show, face painting and balloon twisting and games. The opening ceremony, which includes prizes for the kids and a raffle for the adults, takes place at 4 p.m., followed by cow patty Bingo. The band takes the stage at 5 p.m. There will also be a Pinewood Derby, a bubble show and more.

The fireworks show starts at dusk.

Lynden’s free July 1 festivities are possible because of the City of Hamilton’s Community Partnership Program, the Lynden Lions and sponsorships from local businesses. Free will donations collected at the event will help keep the tradition alive.
