'From now on, I think I will order test kits for E. coli and coliform from Amazon and do the test myself,' says reader

FlamboroughToday received the following letter about well water testing.

On Friday, I called City Hall to find out where I could drop off my well water sample and when.

I was told I could drop it off at Waterdown before 12 o’clock. I headed down to Waterdown to drop off the sample and found that the regional municipal service centre is closed on Fridays.

I had to go all the way to Ancaster to drop off a sample because that one was open.

When I dropped it off, I was told I was lucky that I came when I did because usually the samples are picked up before 10 o’clock, so the 12 o’clock time is misinformation by City Hall.

This may not be a public health issue, but rather mismanagement of the system by the city.

From now on, I think I will order test kits for E. coli and coliform from Amazon and do the test myself. It’s only $20 for two test kits.

That will save me more than running around, dropping samples off, and then the cost of the system of doing the actual tests will not have to paid for by taxpayers.
