LETTER: Why do we need lights at Waterdown Road and Mountain Brow?

A temporary stoplight is now operating at the intersection at Mountain Brow and Waterdown Road.

FlamboroughToday received the following letter wondering how planning decisions are made in Hamilton.

My mind is often boggled by those responsible, or otherwise, planning for the City of Hamilton.

The Waterdown bypass is perhaps the prime example, but don’t get me started on that debacle. My current head-scratcher is the newly installed traffic lights on Waterdown Road at Mountainbrow. I have lived in Waterdown for 30 years and, to the best of my knowledge, there had previously never been any requirement for lights at that location during this time nor should I imagine for the past century.

Now, I can understand that the new bypass may be requiring of some form of traffic control there, but surely a roundabout/traffic circle would serve a more practical purpose. As a local living in the vicinity of Smokey Hollow I can only imagine the carnage during the winter months when vehicles will have to stop on the incline when the lights are on red because there just may be a vehicle coming along Mountain Brow. Anyway, I digress from the current issue. Since there has never been lights at Waterdown/Mountainbrow does anyone think that it may be a practical idea to disconnect the new traffic lights while construction is ongoing in close proximity to them?
